BARRIE- Police are reminding residents that keeping an eye on the little details can make all the difference when it comes to protecting personal property. The South Simcoe Police Service issued a fresh warning following a recent spike in reports of items being stolen from inside parked vehicles across the community.
To highlight the ongoing risk, the police service shared an image on social media showing a suspect caught in the act of stealing a pair of designer glasses valued at $600. According to authorities, unlocked vehicles and cars with valuable items left in plain sight remain the prime targets for opportunistic thieves.
In light of these incidents, law enforcement officials are urging residents to always lock their car doors, even when the vehicle is parked in their own driveway or at home. Motorists are advised to remove all valuables from their vehicles entirely or, at the very least, store them hidden away from view.
Additionally, police recommend double-checking that all windows and sunroofs are completely closed and securely sealed before leaving a vehicle. Whenever possible, drivers should park in well-lit, highly visible areas to deter potential criminals.
Finally, community members are asked to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious behavior—such as individuals looking into parked cars or checking door handles—to the police.
