TORONTO: In a bid to guarantee the safety of millions of spectators and players, joint hosts Canada, the United States, and Mexico have deployed a massive, multi-layered security operation across all tournament venues for the FIFA World Cup 2026. A highly stringent aerial surveillance network has been established over the host stadiums, featuring routine patrols by military fighter jets and specialized counter-drone defense systems. The overarching air defense operations for the mega-event are being closely coordinated by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
Strict “no-fly zones” have already been declared over the stadiums and official fan zones in key Canadian host cities, including Toronto and Vancouver, completely banning unauthorized commercial flights, private aircraft, and recreational drones. Furthermore, a temporary radar surveillance system has been installed near the Greater Toronto Area to monitor the restricted airspace in real time.
