Lars brand dining furniture products recalled due to lead in excess of allowable limit

OTTAWA – Health Canada has issued a recall for Lars-branded dining furniture sold at The Brick stores across the country, after finding excessive levels of lead in the products’ black coatings. The recall affects 17,472 units sold between June 2023 and July 2025.

The affected products include the Lars Counter Chair, Lars Counter Wood Top and Metal Base, Lars Tabletop Center Glass Insert, and Lars Counter Table, which were sold individually and as part of five- and seven-piece sets.

A sampling and evaluation program conducted by Health Canada found that the black coating on the legs and metal bases of the furniture contained lead in excess of the allowable limit. The agency warns that lead is toxic if ingested, particularly for children, and can lead to serious health complications such as developmental delays, brain damage, and anemia. Ongoing exposure, even to small amounts, can result in a significant build-up of lead in the body.

As of August 15, 2025, Health Canada has not received any reports of injuries or incidents in Canada related to the recalled products.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the furniture and contact The Brick for further instructions. The company can be reached by phone at 1-780-452-7912 (English) or 1-514-685-9421 (French) between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. MT, or by email at recall@thebrick.com.
