OTTAWA – Graham Greene, the Oscar-nominated Canadian actor known for numerous memorable roles, has passed away at the age of 73. He had been battling an illness for an extended period. His management team confirmed that he died on Monday in Stratford, Ontario.
Born on June 22, 1952, in the Six Nations Reserve of the Grand River in Ontario, he was the son of John, a paramedic and maintenance worker, and Lillian Greene. Before his career in acting, Greene worked as a draftsman, steel worker, and welder.
He achieved international recognition for his role as Kicking Bird in Kevin Costner’s film Dances with Wolves (1990), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. His other notable films include Thunderheart (1992), Maverick (1994), Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995), The Green Mile (1999), Skins (2002), Transamerica (2005), Casino Jack (2010), Winter’s Tale (2014), The Shack (2017), and Wind River (2017).
