Risk of flooding in Toronto as heavy rain hits the region

TORONTO- Environment Canada has issued a flood watch for Toronto as heavy rain continues to lash the city. National weather agencies report that intense rainfall, beginning Tuesday morning, could bring up to 20 mm of precipitation. This follows several days of persistent wet weather in the region.

A specific rainfall warning has been issued for Barrie, where totals could reach 35 mm. The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) warned that rain coupled with thunderstorms could cause rivers to overflow. Commuters are advised to stay alert, as water is expected to pool in low-lying areas and on roads.

While temperatures are expected to rise slightly in the coming days, remaining above 18°C through Saturday, the rain is likely to persist until the end of the week. Forecasters predict a temperature drop on Sunday, with clearer skies finally returning by Monday.
