Death Threats Against Prime Minister: RCMP Charges Winnipeg Resident

WINNIPEG – The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Federal Policing Northwest Region has laid serious charges against a Winnipeg man following an investigation into death threats made against Prime Minister Mark Carney. The investigation began in early 2026 after authorities flagged a series of alarming posts on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The suspect, identified as 55-year-old Jason Paul Rindall, was initially arrested on February 13, 2026. At that time, he faced three counts of uttering threats to cause death, targeting not only the Prime Minister but also the Jewish and Muslim communities. The RCMP’s National Security Enforcement Section took the lead on the case, emphasizing the evolving security risks faced by public figures and religious groups.

In a significant update released this Friday, authorities announced that Rindall now faces additional, more severe charges. These include advocating genocide and the wilful promotion of hatred. These new charges reflect the gravity of the rhetoric found during the ongoing investigation into his digital activities.

Rindall remains in custody and appeared before the Winnipeg Provincial Court on April 24, 2026. The RCMP has reiterated that they take threats of this nature extremely seriously, especially those involving internationally protected persons and the incitement of violence against specific communities. The investigation continues as legal proceedings move forward in the Manitoba court system.
