MONTREAL: The Montreal Police Service (SPVM) has recovered the body of a 36-year-old man who fell into the St. Lawrence River in the Old Port area last Sunday.
According to police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils, emergency services received a 911 call at around 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, reporting a body in the water near Dieppe Park in the Ville-Marie borough. The SPVM marine patrol located the body shortly after, and it was subsequently pulled from the river with the assistance of the Montreal Fire Department.
The deceased was identified as the individual who had gone missing near the Grande Roue de Montréal on Sunday evening. While initial details suggest the man may have entered the water voluntarily, authorities have transferred the case to the coroner’s office to determine the precise cause and circumstances of death.
