Canadian Tire and Tim Hortons Partner to Link Loyalty Programs, Offering Extra Rewards to Customers

TORONTO — Canadian Tire Corporation Ltd. and fast-food coffee chain Tim Hortons have officially linked their loyalty programs in a bid to expand their customer reach and drive cross-brand engagement.

Under the new arrangement, customers can link their Triangle Rewards and Tims Rewards accounts. Members will now earn between 2% and 5% in Canadian Tire Money on eligible purchases at Tim Hortons—in addition to regular Tims points. The strategic tie-up aims to draw Tims patrons to Canadian Tire stores and vice versa.

Currently, 53% of Triangle Rewards members are already enrolled in Tims Rewards. Canadian Tire boasts nearly 12 million Triangle Rewards members across its 1,600 retail locations, while Tim Hortons counts approximately 8 million loyalty program users across 4,000 restaurants nationwide.

The amount of Canadian Tire Money earned will depend on specific purchases and whether customers pay using a Triangle credit card. Earned rewards can be redeemed at Canadian Tire as well as its subsidiary banners, including SportChek, Mark’s, and Party City, while Tims points remain redeemable for food and beverage items.

Executives from both retail giants noted that the partnership developed naturally, given that leadership teams share board seats, network closely, and co-sponsor various national events. Officials stated the goal was to deliver enhanced value to their shared consumer base.

However, market analysts have offered mixed reactions. Liza Amlani, principal and co-founder of the Retail Strategy Group, noted that in an already saturated market, the tie-up appears to be less about customer delight and more about two legacy brands competing for incremental market share.

She cautioned that unless the benefits remain simple, transparent, and genuinely valuable, the arrangement risks becoming a corporate initiative that serves the companies more than the consumers.

The official rollout follows a technical integration period after Canadian Tire first teased the partnership nearly a year ago. Addressing the timing of the launch amid ongoing U.S.-Canada trade tensions and tariffs, Darryl Jenkins, Executive Vice-President at Canadian Tire, stated that the release date was purely coincidental.
