Trump says he could rename Department of Defense to Department of War soon

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has once again stated his intention to rename the U.S. Department of Defense to the “Department of War.” He justified the move by arguing that the new name would better reflect the nation’s history of military victories.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said the current name “doesn’t feel very good” to him, questioning, “What is defense?” He reminded reporters that the department was previously known as the Department of War, a name used during both World Wars when, he noted, the country was winning its conflicts.

“I’m not interested in only focusing on defense. We also need offense sometimes,” Trump said. “I want to change that department back to what it was. We always won wars. I will do it soon.”

The President expressed confidence in the plan, stating, “I believe I’ll get support in Congress. It doesn’t matter if I don’t.”

This is not the first time Trump has openly discussed his desire to change the department’s name. At a NATO summit in June, he had previously referred to Pete Hegseth as his “Secretary of War,” signaling his long-held intent for the name change.
