David Coon stepping down as New Brunswick Green Party leader

FREDERICTON: David Coon, the long-standing leader of the New Brunswick Green Party, has announced his decision to step down after 14 years at the helm. He made the crucial announcement during a press conference in Fredericton on Thursday morning, clarifying that he will remain in his post until a successor is officially chosen.

Despite relinquishing his leadership role, Coon emphasized that he will stay highly active in provincial politics. He will continue serving his constituents as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Fredericton-Lincoln. Coon explained that the primary reason for timing his departure now is to provide the incoming leadership ample time to prepare and build momentum ahead of the 2028 provincial election.

The Green Party is expected to release official details regarding the leadership convention to select his successor in the coming weeks.
