MISSISSAUGA – A significant water main break has forced the closure of a busy section of Hurontario Street in Mississauga on Tuesday morning, causing major traffic disruptions for commuters. Peel Regional Police reported that the break occurred near the intersection of Dundas Street, leading authorities to shut down all northbound lanes of Hurontario Street starting from Dundas shortly after 6:30 AM. Due to the high volume of water flooding the roadway and the resulting icy conditions, police are strictly advising motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes for their morning and afternoon travel.
Officials from the Region of Peel confirmed that emergency repair crews and technicians were dispatched to the site immediately to manage the “significant water flow” and investigate the underlying cause of the rupture. While maintenance work is currently underway, the Region has not yet provided an estimated time for when the road will reopen or when repairs will be completed. It also remains unconfirmed whether the water main break has led to service interruptions or pressure drops for residential and commercial buildings in the immediate vicinity. This incident marks the second major water line failure in the city this week, following a similar break on Monday in the area of Fewster Drive and Crestlawn Drive.
