Free RSV vaccines expanded to New Brunswickers 75 and older

FREDERICTON: The New Brunswick government is launching a respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine campaign as the winter season approaches. Premier Susan Holt announced that the RSV vaccine will be offered free of charge to residents aged 75 and older, starting October 14th.

The Premier emphasized that making the RSV vaccine available to senior citizens aims to reduce hospitalizations and alleviate the strain on the healthcare system during the high-demand season.

Health Minister John Doran stated that individuals aged 75 and over can book their pharmacy appointments for the vaccine online using the provincial scheduler. The Minister noted that providing the vaccine for free to this vulnerable population will help protect their health and well-being.

The initiative comes after the province recorded 73 hospital admissions during the 2024-25 respiratory disease season. Minister Doran expressed confidence that the free vaccine distribution will help prevent a similar situation in the upcoming season.
