TORONTO: Hamilton Police have announced the arrest of a third accused person in the shooting death of an Indian student in Hamilton. Harsimrat Randhawa, a 21-year-old Mohawk College student, was killed in a shootout between two groups on Upper James Street in Hamilton on April 17. On September 8, police officials in Hamilton and Toronto announced the arrest of 29-year-old Jayden Jones from Toronto in connection with the case. Authorities had previously arrested 32-year-old Jerdaine Foster and 26-year-old Obiesia Okafor. The third accused, Jayden Jones, has been charged with murder and attempted murder.
Harsimrat was shot and killed while standing at a bus stop in the South Bend Road area of Upper James Street. She was inadvertently shot during the gunfight between the two groups. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the student with a gunshot wound to her chest. She was taken to the hospital but later died. The shooting took place around 7:30 PM on Thursday, April 17, and involved a black Mercedes SUV and a white Hyundai Elantra. According to investigators, a passenger in the SUV fired multiple shots at those in the sedan. During the subsequent investigation, Hamilton Police located and recovered both vehicles.
