CALGARY — Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Ontario Premier Doug Ford will meet in Calgary on Monday to discuss Canada’s energy future during a major summit. The two leaders are coming together as part of Enserva’s speaker series at the Telus Convention Centre.
The discussion, focusing on energy development, transportation, and marketing in Canada, will highlight pipelines, energy corridors, industrial permits, and cooperation between Eastern and Western Canadian provinces.
Previously on July 6, the two provincial heads jointly announced a proposed route for the Northern Shield Energy Corridor. A key component of this proposal is a 3,300-kilometer crude oil pipeline stretching from Hardisty, Alberta, to Sarnia, Ontario. The provinces assess that this project will strengthen domestic energy supply chains and reduce reliance on foreign markets.
‘Energy Disruptors’ Summit Begins
Meanwhile, the two-day ‘Energy Disruptors: UNITE’ summit will also kick off on Monday at the BMO Centre in Calgary. Bringing together nearly 3,000 industry leaders, the summit will focus on energy security, investments, global trade, and the growing electricity and infrastructure demands associated with artificial intelligence (AI).
Former British Prime Minister David Cameron will speak at the summit on shifting global relationships and what Canada’s ties with the United States and Europe mean for energy and economic security.
Other topics on Monday include geopolitical shifts, battery technology, and Canadian entrepreneurship. On Tuesday, sessions will feature discussions on AI, data centers, and electricity demand, with Alberta Technology and Innovation Minister Nate Glubish and Capital Power President and CEO Avik Dey among the speakers. Acclaimed author Margaret Atwood, Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, and Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas are also among the prominent speakers at the summit.
