3 dead, 1 injured in crash involving four motorcycles and car in Kawartha Lakes

TORONTO: A devastating multi-vehicle collision near Kawartha Lakes on Saturday evening has claimed the lives of three individuals and left another fighting for survival in a hospital.

The tragic incident occurred at approximately 6:00 PM at the intersection of Highway 7 and New Heights Road in Omemee, involving a single passenger vehicle and four motorcycles.

According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the driver of the passenger car—an 18-year-old youth from Peterborough—was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the motorcyclists, a 72-year-old man from Dunchurch, also sustained fatal injuries and died on impact.

Emergency crews quickly mobilized an air ambulance to transport a second motorcyclist, a 65-year-old man from Barrie, to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. Regrettably, he later succumbed to his wounds.

Out of the remaining two motorcyclists involved, a 30-year-old man from Sudbury was rushed to a local hospital before being transferred to a Toronto trauma unit with severe injuries. The fourth rider, a 36-year-old also from Sudbury, escaped with minor injuries and was treated and released directly at the crash site.

The Kawartha Lakes OPP, along with Technical Collision Investigation teams, have launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash. The identities of the victims have not been officially released as authorities continue their probe.
