The Premier indicated that once the RCMP concludes its work, the Chief Coroner will be responsible for releasing comprehensive details regarding the circumstances surrounding the violence.
Mayor Krakowka highlighted the vital role that provincial support has played in the community’s recovery efforts since the disaster occurred on February 10. While the town of 2,600 residents remains deeply affected by the loss, the Mayor noted that the community is showing remarkable resilience. He credited the provincial government with providing essential mental health resources and specialized assistance, promising to maintain ongoing dialogue with Victoria to ensure his constituents receive the long-term support necessary for healing.
However, the handling of the investigation has become a point of political contention, with the B.C. Conservative Party formally demanding a full-scale public inquiry. The opposition argues that a standard Coroner’s Inquest is insufficient to address the gravity of the event.
