OTTAWA: A massive fire broke out in a rural southern area of Ottawa early Thursday morning, causing extensive damage to a large farm property.
The blaze was first reported around 12:45 AM at a farm located on 8 Line Road, near the Metcalfe community. By the time Ottawa Fire Services arrived on the scene, the fire had already engulfed the main structure and was rapidly spreading to adjacent buildings.
Firefighters faced severe operational challenges due to a complete lack of fire hydrants in the immediate rural area, forcing crews to rely on water shuttles. The situation was further complicated by the collapse of burning structures, the presence of a fuel tank close to one of the buildings, and live overhead power lines, which heightened the risk of a secondary disaster.
Despite the hazardous conditions, firefighting crews managed to bring the blaze completely under control by 2:00 AM. No injuries have been reported, and authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
