Minor Ground Collision at Delhi Airport Involving SpiceJet and Akasa Air

NEW DELHI – A minor collision occurred at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday evening when a taxiing SpiceJet aircraft struck a parked Akasa Air plane. The incident took place as the SpiceJet Boeing 737-700 was maneuvering on the taxiway, leading to contact with the stationary Akasa Air vessel. Fortunately, authorities have confirmed that all passengers and crew members on both aircraft are safe and no injuries were reported.

The impact resulted in visible damage to both planes, specifically affecting the right winglet of the SpiceJet aircraft and the left-hand rear wing of the Akasa Air plane. The Akasa Air flight, QP 1406, was scheduled to fly to Hyderabad at the time of the mishap. Following the collision, passengers were immediately deplaned, and the airline issued a statement confirming that alternative travel arrangements were being made to get them to their destination.

Both aircraft have been grounded and moved to a maintenance bay for a full technical assessment. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has officially launched an investigation to determine the root cause of the incident. Investigators are currently reviewing whether the collision was due to a breach of safety protocols, ground marking issues, or a lapse in communication between the cockpit and air traffic control.
