GM Recalls 126 Trucks Across Canada

OTTAWA — General Motors has issued a recall for 126 pickup trucks in Canada following reports that side curtain airbag inflators could unexpectedly deploy without a crash occurring.

Transport Canada confirmed that the defect affects certain 2016 model-year Chevrolet Silverado, Silverado HD, GMC Sierra, and Sierra HD trucks.

According to the safety agency, a failure in the side curtain airbag inflator could cause the airbags to deploy unexpectedly while the vehicle is in operation. If an inflator ruptures, metal fragments could be projected into the vehicle interior, posing a risk of severe injury to occupants.

General Motors will contact affected vehicle owners directly by mail. Owners will be advised to bring their trucks to an authorized dealership to have the curtain airbag modules on both sides replaced free of charge. Vehicle owners can also check if their truck is affected by using their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
