Ford Motor Co. is recalling its popular Bronco and Bronco Raptor models due to a potential engine fire hazard. The recall was issued following findings that a short circuit in the engine compartment’s wiring harness could increase the risk of fire. The move impacts more than half a million vehicles worldwide, including 36,061 in Canada.
A total of 565,691 Ford Bronco vehicles from model years 2021 through 2026 are included in the global recall list. The automaker estimates that approximately one percent of these vehicles have the wiring defect. However, Ford stated that no reports of accidents or injuries related to the issue have been received so far. The primary issue stems from insufficient protection on the wiring harness, which can lead to exposed wires and subsequent short circuiting. In the event of a short, drivers may notice smoke coming through the air vents or a warning message on the dashboard, followed by flames originating from the passenger side of the engine compartment.
The automaker announced that a permanent remedy for this technical defect has already been developed and will be ready by August. To resolve the issue, dealerships will install new protective covers over the wiring free of charge.
