HALIFAX – Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Halifax and various parts of Nova Scotia, warning of significant rainfall and strong winds beginning Sunday. Forecasters predict that the Halifax region could receive between 25 to 40 mm of rain, with some areas potentially seeing higher accumulations. The rain is expected to start Sunday afternoon and persist until early Monday morning.
The weather shift is attributed to a low-pressure system developing over eastern Nova Scotia. This system is anticipated to bring heavy showers and possible thunderstorms to the central and western parts of the province. In higher elevations, the rain may mix with wet snow. In addition to the precipitation, strong easterly winds are expected, with gusts reaching up to 80 km/h in some areas.
Authorities have advised residents to clear storm drains and gutters of debris to prevent localized flooding ahead of the heaviest rainfall. Conditions are expected to improve by Monday afternoon with a forecast high of 13°C, though coastal areas are likely to remain cooler.
