Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw has confirmed that arrests have been made in connection with last month’s fatal shooting at the Salsa on St. Clair street festival. Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Chief Demkiw announced that suspects were taken into custody late Wednesday evening following a dedicated investigation into the incident.
The deadly altercation occurred on July 11 in the middle of the crowded festival, where an exchange of gunfire left two young men dead and several others injured. Police identified the victims as 25-year-old Shaquan Quashie and 20-year-old Cesar Vernaza. Further details regarding the suspects and charges are expected to be officially released during a formal police briefing scheduled for Friday.
The shooting raised severe public safety concerns across Toronto, particularly with major cultural events taking place throughout the summer season. Addressing these worries ahead of the upcoming Taste of Danforth festival, Chief Demkiw reassured the public that law enforcement will maintain a heightened and visible presence at all large-scale gatherings across the city.
