Halifax: Nova Scotia is deploying firefighters to Saskatchewan to aid in the efforts to control out-of-control wildfires blazing across the province. A team of 20 firefighters is scheduled to fly to Saskatoon on Saturday. This marks the second time this wildfire season that the Nova Scotia government has sent a firefighting crew to Saskatchewan, with the first deployment having occurred in late May.
Tory Rushton, Nova Scotia’s Minister of Natural Resources, stated that the province is able to send assistance to Western Canada due to the limited wildfire activity currently within Nova Scotia. He also noted that Nova Scotia has contributed to other wildfire efforts across the country this year, including a specialist team deployed to the Northwest Territories and two communications technicians who assisted with firefighting operations in Alberta in June.
In 2024, the Nova Scotia government sent firefighting crews and equipment six times to help manage wildfires throughout Canada, demonstrating its commitment to inter-provincial support during severe wildfire seasons.
