Missing Canadian Actor Stewart McLean Found Dead; Homicide Investigation Underway

VANCOUVER — The remains of 45-year-old Canadian actor and producer Stewart McLean have been discovered in the coastal community of Lions Bay, British Columbia, following a week-long disappearance. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has officially taken over the case after local authorities uncovered evidence pointing toward foul play, confirming they are now treating the actor’s death as a homicide.

McLean, widely recognized for his roles in popular television series including Netflix’s Virgin River and Travelers, as well as The CW’s Arrow, was last seen alive at his residence in Lions Bay on May 15, 2026. After he failed to appear for a scheduled film shoot the following day, concerned friends and colleagues contacted authorities. The Squamish RCMP officially registered a missing person report on May 18, initially citing deep concerns for his health and well-being.

The search operation, heavily assisted by Lions Bay Search and Rescue, shifted dramatically on Wednesday when search teams discovered highly suspicious evidence near the rail tracks across the street from the actor’s home. Recognizing the potential indicators of foul play, local police immediately requested the deployment of the regional homicide unit. On Friday afternoon, IHIT officially announced that the actor’s remains had been successfully located within the Lions Bay area.

While law enforcement officials have refrained from releasing specific details regarding the cause of death, IHIT spokesperson Cpl. Esther Tupper stated that investigators strongly believe this to be an isolated incident, reassuring the public that there is no broader threat to community safety. Homicide team investigators, alongside the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service, are currently working to reconstruct a definitive timeline of McLean’s activities leading up to his disappearance.

The tragic news has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit Sea-to-Sky corridor community and the Canadian entertainment industry. Longtime neighbors and close friends described the Edmonton-born actor as an exceptionally kind, polite, and situationally aware individual who led a quiet, professional life. Authorities have urged anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity in the Lions Bay or Brunswick Beach areas around mid-May, or who possesses relevant dashcam or CCTV footage, to immediately contact the IHIT information line.
