NEW BRUNSWICK — Private Canadian firm Nalagx Corp. has selected the province of New Brunswick as the site for its planned explosives manufacturing facility. Company Chief Executive Officer Patrick Gagnon confirmed that the location near Belledune was chosen after evaluating competing sites across multiple Canadian provinces and two U.S. states.
In a formal communication to the company, New Brunswick Natural Resources Minister John Herron confirmed that his department has earmarked a 1,500-acre parcel of government Crown land for the proposed facility. Herron highlighted the strategic advantages of the Belledune site, citing its direct access to the Atlantic-facing Port of Belledune, along with well-established regional rail and highway networks.
According to Gagnon, once operational, the new plant is projected to double the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO) current supply of military-grade explosives, significantly enhancing Canada’s role as a primary supplier of defense munitions. In addition to supporting international defense commitments, the facility will produce commercial explosives to supply New Brunswick’s growing domestic mining sector.
