Mandatory evacuation issued for Manitoba town

WINNIPEG: A local state of emergency has been declared in Snow Lake, a town in Manitoba, due to an uncontrolled and spreading wildfire. Authorities have instructed all residents, including essential personnel, to evacuate the town by noon on Thursday. The fire near Snow Lake is approximately 3,000 hectares in size and remains out of control. Currently, there are 98 active wildfires across Manitoba.

TThis marks the second time this season that Snow Lake residents have had to evacuate due to wildfires. Similarly, the 600 residents of Lynn Lake have been ordered to flee for the second time this season.

Evacuees are advised to carry essential items such as money, pets, medications, clothing, and personal hygiene products. They are also reminded to secure their homes by locking up and turning off lights and water supply before leaving. For those requiring accommodation, the Leila Soccer Complex at 770 Leila Avenue in Winnipeg has been designated as a reporting center.

The declaration of a provincewide state of emergency aims to rally necessary resources and emphasize the gravity of the situation as Manitoba grapples with widespread and uncontained wildfires.
