BARRIE – As part of the ongoing Highway 400 bridge replacement project, motorists in Barrie should prepare for traffic lane closures on Dunlop Street starting this Tuesday. This work marks a significant phase in the Ontario Ministry of Transportation’s multi-year infrastructure plan to modernize the highway corridor.
The massive redevelopment project involves replacing three key bridges along Highway 400: Dunlop Street, Anne Street, and Sunnidale Road.
Starting Tuesday, lanes on Dunlop Street between Anne Street and Hart Drive will be closed. Additional lane restrictions are expected to follow on Wednesday and Thursday. While the Ministry has stated that controls will be in place daily from 6:00 AM until work is completed, the City confirmed that lanes will be reopened to traffic at the end of each workday to minimize overnight disruptions.
The project involves the construction of a new six-lane bridge, designed to accommodate the future widening of Highway 400. Officials expect the entire project to be completed by 2028, providing a long-term solution to traffic congestion in the region.
