Waterloo Police Step Up Patrols, Launch Awareness Campaign in University District Over Rising Crime

WATERLOO, ON – The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) has launched a proactive crime prevention initiative following a rise in thefts and other criminal activities in the University District. Police officials are preparing to go door-to-door to deliver safety warnings and prevention tips directly to residents, particularly students, living in the area.

Officers from the Crime Suppression Analysis Response Team (CSART) will be deployed to the University District in Waterloo to conduct these critical awareness campaigns.

The police action comes in response to a significant increase in reported incidents, including vehicle break-ins, theft of property, and reports of property damage in the area.

WRPS Constable Chris Eiden confirmed that the dense residential area, characterized by large apartment buildings and extensive parking facilities, is a zone of special attention for the police service.

Constable Eiden further explained that for residents who are not available to speak directly with officers, specialized “door hangers” containing basic safety information and methods for protecting personal property will be left behind.

WRPS plans to conduct such public engagement activities continuously in the future. The initiative provides a vital opportunity for residents to speak directly with police, raise suspicions, and ask questions regarding neighborhood safety.
