MONTREAL—Heavy snowfall has resulted in widespread power failures across Quebec, leaving more than 300,000 homes without electricity, according to recent reports.
Authorities reported that the Montérégie region was the hardest hit, with over 150,000 households affected by the outages. Other areas severely impacted include Lanaudière, Montreal, and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. Hydro-Québec confirmed that the primary cause of the widespread issue was tree branches falling onto power lines.
Hydro-Québec has deployed necessary teams and is continuing efforts to repair faults in over 900 locations to restore power as quickly as possible.
Environment Canada indicated that most areas received between 10 and 20 centimeters of snow, leading to slippery and snow-covered roads. Consequently, traffic conditions remain poor in several regions, raising the risk of accidents. Authorities also reminded the public that winter tires will become mandatory starting December 1st to mitigate the dangers posed by the adverse road conditions.
