Calgary: Thousands of customers in the eastern sector of Calgary were affected by a major power outage early Thursday morning, though authorities report that the vast majority of the service disruptions have since been resolved.
The outage, which struck around 9 a.m., initially left 5,305 customers without power across several communities, including Applewood Park, Abbeydale, and parts of Rocky View County.
Utility company Enmax reported a rapid decrease in the number of affected customers, with the figure dropping sharply to just 72 within an hour of the initial disruption.
In addition to these areas, a separate failure impacting 2,201 people in nearby neighborhoods, including Marlborough and Forest Heights, was also resolved by utility crews.
The precise cause of the widespread power interruption remains unclear. Enmax has confirmed that an investigation is currently underway to determine the source of the electrical failure.
