Snowfall warning issued for maritimes as cold weather returns

HALIFAX — The recent heat wave across the Maritime provinces has reportedly subsided, with Environment Canada forecasting widespread cold and snowy conditions across the region starting early Friday morning.

A snowfall warning is currently in effect for Halifax and Western Mainland Nova Scotia, and for all areas of New Brunswick except its northwestern region. Notably, Prince Edward Island currently has no active snowfall warning.

The weather agency has also issued temperature forecasts for the region:

  • Maritimes inland areas: Temperatures are expected to drop as low as −5∘C.
  • New Brunswick coastal areas: Temperatures are forecast to be around 0∘C.
  • Nova Scotia: Inland regions are expected to reach 0∘C, while coastal areas will see temperatures around 4∘C.

Environment Canada anticipates “widespread frost due to clear skies, light winds, and very cold weather,” urging residents to prepare for the sudden shift to wintry conditions.
