TORONTO: Toronto Police have launched an investigation after two bodies were discovered inside burning vehicles in separate incidents across opposite ends of the city overnight. Authorities are actively probing whether there is any link between the two cases.
The first incident occurred at around 11:24 p.m. in Scarborough, when emergency services received reports of a car on fire on Reesor Road, located between Steeles Avenue East and Old Finch Road. Firefighters and police arrived at the scene to find a vehicle engulfed in flames, and subsequently located a body inside.
Roughly an hour and a half later, at around 12:50 a.m., emergency crews were called to another vehicle fire at James Gardens Park on Edenbridge Drive in Etobicoke, near Royal York Road. Responding officers noted reports of heavy smoke rising from the park accompanied by explosive sounds. Upon extinguishing the fire, authorities discovered a second body inside the burnt-out vehicle.
The cause of death for both individuals has not yet been determined, and their identities have not been publicly released.
The Toronto Police Homicide Unit has been notified and is currently assisting with the investigation. Police stated that while it is too early in the investigation to confirm whether the two incidents are connected, all possibilities are being considered as inquiries continue.
