TORONTO — Seven months after the murder of a 30-year-old Indian-origin woman in Toronto, Canadian police have arrested her partner in connection with the crime. The Toronto Police Service arrested 32-year-old Abdul Ghafoori and charged him with first-degree murder over the death of Himanshi Khurana.
Himanshi was found dead inside a residence in Toronto on December 20 last year. Preliminary investigations by the police suggested that her death was an act of intimate partner violence, leading investigators to confirm that Khurana and Ghafoori were in a relationship.
Following the incident, a nationwide arrest warrant was issued against Ghafoori. Officers from Toronto Police’s Fugitive Squad and the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit coordinated with national and international law enforcement agencies to track down the suspect.
Ghafoori was taken into custody on Friday upon his arrival at a Toronto airport. Authorities have not disclosed which country he had been staying in prior to his arrest.
Police originally received a missing person report concerning Himanshi on December 19, 2025, at around 10:41 p.m. in the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area. Following a search in the neighborhood, officers located her body inside a residence the next morning at approximately 6:30 a.m. and subsequently registered a homicide investigation.
The Consulate General of India in Toronto had previously expressed shock and deep grief over Himanshi’s death, confirming it was working in coordination with local authorities to extend all possible assistance to her family.
