Air Canada to phase out routes to these U.S. destinations in 2027

TORONTO: Air Canada has decided to suspend four routes to U.S. cities starting next summer, citing a decline in passenger numbers.

Cancelled Routes:

  • Vancouver – Nashville (Tennessee)
  • Vancouver – Raleigh-Durham (North Carolina)
  • Toronto – Charleston (South Carolina)
  • Montreal – Seattle (Washington)

Air Canada spokesperson Sean Davidson stated that the move is part of the airline’s strategy to adjust services based on travel demand and changing passenger patterns. While flights to Nashville, Raleigh-Durham, and Seattle will continue from other Canadian airports, the company has not provided clarity on future services to Charleston.

A sharp drop in cross-border travel between Canada and the United States prompted the decision. According to Statistics Canada (StatCan), the number of Canadian residents returning from trips to the U.S. fell by 25.6 percent compared to July 2024.

New Routes and Expansion Plans

Despite cutting these routes, Air Canada is planning to introduce several new services ahead of the summer travel season:

  • Toronto – Louisville (Kentucky)
  • Montreal – Indianapolis (Indiana)
  • Edmonton – Newark (New Jersey)

Additionally, the airline will upgrade capacity on the Edmonton – San Francisco route by deploying larger Airbus A220 aircraft.

In partnership with United Airlines, Air Canada will also launch new seasonal services connecting Denver to Ottawa and Quebec City, as well as Newark to St. John’s. Plans are also underway to expand existing services between Washington, D.C. and Quebec City, as well as Denver and Winnipeg.
