Canada to Present 2026 Federal Budget on Nov 5 Amid US Tariffs and Economic Challenges

Ottawa: Canada’s 2026 federal budget will be presented on November 5, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne announced. This will be the second budget presented in Parliament by the federal government led by Prime Minister Mark Carney. The budget announcement comes at a critical time as the country’s economy navigates various pressures.

According to a new report by the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO), the country’s federal deficit is estimated to average an additional $3 billion per year over the next five years. However, a surge in fuel prices triggered by conflicts in the Middle East has boosted federal revenue in the short term. The PBO projects that this revenue increase will help reduce the budget deficit for the current fiscal year.

The Canadian economy demonstrated strong growth and resilience in the second quarter of the current fiscal year. Nevertheless, the failure of trade talks with the United States in August has placed renewed pressure on the economic growth rate. The financial world is now closely watching to see what economic reforms the government will announce in the budget to overcome these adverse conditions.
