PEEL REGION (ONTARIO) — Vehicle thefts in Peel Region dropped by 10 per cent in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to new data released by the provincial government. Between January 1 and June 30, 2026, a total of 2,790 vehicles were reported stolen, down from 3,089 during the first half of 2025.
At a news conference on Monday morning, the provincial government confirmed it will invest an additional $6 million into the Preventing Auto Thefts (PAT) Grant Program. This funding will support 22 police projects across Ontario, with Peel Regional Police receiving $300,000 in new funding.
“Auto theft is down across Ontario because our government is making it a priority and is giving police the tools and resources they need to go after the organized criminals who are behind it,” said Ontario Solicitor General Michael Kerzner. He emphasized that while there is real progress, the province will continue its efforts and further invest to disrupt criminal networks.
Vehicle thefts in Ontario have seen a significant decline since 2023, when 30,134 vehicle thefts were reported across the province. According to data from Équité Association, that figure dropped to 19,319 in 2025.
