Ottawa: A traveler has alleged that he was double-charged for toll fees while crossing the Gordie Howe International Bridge. Greg Layson, who made multiple trips following the bridge’s opening, raised the issue after discovering excess charges billed for two of his journeys.
Layson, who traveled from Windsor to Detroit and back on July 29, crossed the bridge again in both directions on August 2. He became aware of the issue when his wife noticed a double charge recorded on their credit card for the July 29 trip.
A subsequent check of the credit card statement revealed that an extra amount was charged for the August 2 trip as well. While the standard one-way toll for a single passenger vehicle without a trailer is $8, Layson stated he was charged $16 per single trip.
Meanwhile, authorities clarified that toll rates have not been increased. However, acknowledging similar complaints from several crossers during the opening week, the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority stated it is investigating the technical glitch. Officials have advised travelers to review their credit card statements to verify whether any extra fees were charged.
