GLASGOW: Canadian athlete Sarah Mitton successfully defended her Commonwealth Games women’s shot put title on Wednesday, launching a winning throw of 19.88 metres in Glasgow, Scotland. The 30-year-old thrower, hailing from Brooklyn in Queen’s County, Nova Scotia, secured Canada’s 14th gold medal of the Games.
Speaking with Athletics Canada following her victory, Mitton expressed her pride in standing atop the podium as a back-to-back Commonwealth champion. “I’m pretty proud,” Mitton told Athletics Canada. “Every time you step into the stadium, there’s a chance that it doesn’t go your way, and you do everything in your power to make your dreams come true.”
Mitton brings an extensive international track record to the podium, having represented Canada at the last two Summer Olympic Games. She is also a two-time world indoor champion and earned the silver medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships.
The Commonwealth Games competitions in Glasgow are scheduled to continue through Sunday.
