TORONTO: The Ontario provincial government has announced financial compensation for residents whose properties suffered damages from severe rainfall and snowmelt flooding earlier this spring. Funding is being made available through the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians (DRAO) program.
Residents, farm owners, small businesses, and non-profit organizations in Orillia, Ramara, and Kawartha Lakes may qualify for assistance if their damages were not covered by insurance providers.
The financial relief is restricted to specific communities designated by the province as “activation areas” that were impacted by the April 2026 flooding. In Central Ontario, these primary activation zones include Burnt River in Kawartha Lakes, Cedar Island in Orillia, and Lake St. John in Ramara.
Detailed guidelines regarding eligibility criteria, coverage amounts, and application procedures have been published on the Ontario government’s official website. The deadline for affected residents to submit compensation applications for the April 2026 flood damages is November 16, 2026.
