Barrie officially completes improvements on Bayview Drive

Barrie- It may have taken some time, but the City of Barrie has officially announced that the extensive roadwork along Bayview Drive is officially complete. In a social media update shared on Wednesday, the city confirmed that the final pavement markings have been laid down, bringing an end to the multi-year infrastructure project.

The major redevelopment project along Bayview Drive first commenced in 2024. Because of the heavy construction, commuters faced prolonged traffic disruptions, and the city was forced to keep a major detour in place until the end of July 2025.

While the very final touch-ups and pavement painting were just completed days ago, municipal officials noted that the bulk of the heavy construction work had already been wrapped up by the fall of 2025.

The comprehensive upgrade focused on the stretch of Bayview Drive between Little Avenue and Springhome Road. According to the city, the major thoroughfare has undergone the following transformations:

  • Road Widening & Resurfacing: The busy corridor has been widened to accommodate better traffic flow and completely resurfaced for a smoother drive.
  • Active Transportation: Dedicated cycle tracks have been integrated into the design, alongside significantly improved sidewalks for pedestrian safety.
  • Infrastructure Upgrades: Crucial underground stormwater management systems were overhauled to prevent localized flooding.

The city thanked local residents and motorists for their patience throughout the years of construction, noting that these modern updates will drastically improve safety and ease gridlock in the area.
