Hydraulic Oil Spill at Old Mill Station Disrupts TTC Line 2 Services

TORONTO – A significant hydraulic oil spill at Old Mill Station in Etobicoke caused a major shutdown of the TTC’s Line 2 (Bloor-Danforth) on Tuesday. The leak, which occurred during routine overnight maintenance around 2:30 a.m., led to a total suspension of subway service between Jane and Islington stations, creating a difficult commute for thousands during the morning rush hour.

In response to the closure, the TTC deployed more than 50 shuttle buses to operate between Keele and Kipling stations. Despite the large number of buses, passengers faced heavy crowding and long wait times. To provide more options, the TTC coordinated with GO Transit, allowing commuters to use their TTC fares at several stations, including Dundas West, Kipling, Bloor, Union, and Mimico.

TTC CEO Mandeep Lali issued a formal apology for the disruption, acknowledging the frustration caused to commuters. Lali stated that while cleaning and safety inspections are underway, a specific time for the resumption of service remains uncertain. He emphasized that the agency is investigating the cause of the spill to ensure that similar incidents do not happen in the future.
