OTTAWA – Canadian police have arrested Khalistani leader Inderjit Singh Gosal on multiple firearms charges, according to the Ontario Provincial Police. Gosal was taken into custody in Whitby, Ontario, on Friday and faces charges including careless use of a firearm and other related offenses.
Gosal, 36, from Brampton, is a leader in the Khalistan movement, which seeks an independent Sikh state in the Punjab region of India. His arrest comes at a time of ongoing diplomatic efforts between India and Canada to ease tensions that have been present since the killing of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023.
Court documents indicate that Gosal appeared in an Oshawa court on Monday, where charges were also laid against two other individuals: Arman Singh, a 23-year-old from Toronto, and Jagdeep Singh, 41, a New York resident.
