Zelenskyy to Meet Trump in Florida This Sunday to Discuss 20-Point Peace Plan

KYIV – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that he will travel to Florida this weekend to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump. The high-stakes meeting, scheduled for Sunday, December 28, represents a pivotal moment in the U.S.-led diplomatic push to end the nearly four-year-old war between Russia and Ukraine.

The meeting is expected to take place at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, where the leaders will discuss sensitive security guarantees and the framework of a new peace proposal.

The 20-Point Peace Plan

President Zelenskyy revealed to journalists on Friday that a comprehensive 20-point peace plan is currently under development. He noted that the document is approximately 90% complete, though “sensitive issues” remain to be finalized.

Key elements of the proposed plan reportedly include:

  • long-term safety for Ukraine, described as similar in strength to NATO’s Article 5.
  • Potential creation of demilitarized “economic zones” in occupied territories like the Donbas and near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.
  • A ceasefire that halts active combat along the current battle lines.

Preparatory Talks with U.S. Envoys

The announcement follows intensive diplomatic activity during the Christmas holiday. Zelenskyy held a substantive phone call on Christmas Day with Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Zelenskyy described the hour-long discussion as “constructive,” stating that the Ukrainian team is working “24/7” to ensure all peace documents are realistic and effective. He also confirmed that Ukraine’s National Security Adviser, Rustem Umerov, has been in constant contact with the American team to bridge gaps before the Sunday summit.

This meeting comes as President Trump intensifies his efforts to broker what he calls a “major deal” to end Europe’s largest conflict since World War II. While Kyiv has signaled a willingness to negotiate on certain fronts, the Kremlin has remained firm on its demands for full control over specific eastern regions.
