Winter Storm Grips North Texas: Schools and Colleges Extended Closures Through Tuesday

North Texas: A relentless winter storm and plunging temperatures have forced school districts across North Texas to remain closed for a second consecutive day. Authorities announced that all classes and school-related activities are canceled for Tuesday due to hazardous, ice-covered roads and the ongoing risks posed by the extreme cold. Officials stated that the extension of the closure is a necessary precaution to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff.

The closure affects a wide range of educational institutions, including public school districts, charter networks, and private schools. While most campuses were already shut on Monday, the lack of improvement in road conditions led administrators to call off Tuesday’s schedule as well. Parents and guardians have been advised to monitor local news and official district websites for real-time updates regarding potential reopening schedules for the remainder of the week.

Major school districts across the region have joined the list of closures. Significant districts including Allen ISD, Arlington ISD, Fort Worth ISD, Frisco ISD, Garland ISD, Plano ISD, and Richardson ISD have all confirmed they will not be in session. Many of these districts have also canceled extracurricular activities, including sports practices and evening meetings, to keep residents off the dangerous roads.

The disruption extends to higher education as well, with several major universities and colleges shuttering their physical campuses. Collin College, Dallas College, the University of North Texas (UNT), and UT-Dallas have all announced that their facilities will be closed on Tuesday. In some instances, however, institutions are moving classes to an online or remote learning format to prevent students from falling behind in their coursework while staying safe indoors.
