Waterloo Region Seeks New Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to Lead Housing Initiatives

Toronto: The Region of Waterloo has reportedly initiated the process to hire a new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the municipality’s most senior official. In an advertisement posted on LinkedIn, the municipality specified that they are looking for a qualified individual to provide leadership during a critical phase of the Region’s development. The salary announced for this pivotal position ranges from $200,000 to $300,000 annually.

The CAO’s responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the Regional Council.
  • Implementing key objectives, including addressing homelessness.
  • Overseeing the Region’s approximately 4,000 employees.

The municipality has outlined the key qualifications for the job:

  • A University degree in Public Administration/Management.
  • Prior experience in senior leadership roles.
  • Knowledge of municipal governance.

Currently, Matthew Gaskell is serving as the interim CAO and will remain in the position until a new candidate is found. The deadline to apply for this major post is January 5.
