Water Main Break Floods Major Brampton Intersection; Repairs Underway

BRAMPTON: A major water main break at a key intersection in Brampton has caused significant flooding, forcing the closure and restriction of roads in the area. The City of Brampton crews are currently undertaking repair work.

The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 11, at the junction of Queen Street East and Central Park Drive. Water was seen surging onto the road following the pipe failure, leading to traffic chaos.

Traffic Impacts and Closures

Due to the flooding and repair work, traffic control measures have been implemented:

  • Queen Street East has been reduced to one lane near Central Park Drive.
  • Central Park Drive is completely closed between Queen Street East and Hanover Road.

Police are advising motorists to avoid the area and adjust their commute times.

Challenges for Repair Crews

The City of Brampton authorities are working on an emergency basis, but the flooding and cold weather are posing significant challenges to the repair efforts. Officials noted that the heavy snowfall has clogged catch basins, impeding the drainage of water from the road.

The water main break occurred during scheduled maintenance to fix a leak from the previous night. The pipe failed completely before the repair could be finished. It remains unclear when the area will return to normal operation.
