US Alcohol Sales to Resume in PEI Starting Tomorrow; Profits to Go to Food Banks

Charlottetown: US-made alcohol products will return to liquor stores across Prince Edward Island (PEI) starting tomorrow.

The PEI government had withdrawn US alcohol products from its stores in February in retaliation for tariffs imposed by the United States. The remaining stock of American-made liquor will be sold, and all profits generated from these sales will be donated to food banks across the province.

The decision follows similar initiatives previously announced by the Maritime provinces of Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Manitoba.

The government has instructed the PEI Liquor Control Commission (PEILCC) to place the American liquor products back on store shelves starting on Thursday. However, the government noted that due to shipping logistics, there might be delays in the US alcohol arriving at stores in certain locations.

Finance Minister Jill Burridge stated that once the current stock is sold out, the province will not place new orders for American alcohol products.
