OTTAWA — A new study by Canadian researchers suggests that ultra-processed foods may be harmful to men’s heart and reproductive health. The study, which included 43 men between the ages of 20 and 35, found that those who consumed ultra-processed foods gained weight and had worse cholesterol levels.
Researchers also confirmed that men who ate higher amounts of these foods had lower sperm quality and motility. Additionally, they found that reproductive hormones like testosterone were lower in these participants.
The study noted that it can be challenging to completely avoid ultra-processed foods. However, researchers recommend that men choose unprocessed foods whenever possible to improve their health.
