TTC fare inspectors will have a new name and new look starting today

TORONTO: TTC fare inspectors will be deployed starting today in new uniforms and with a new designation to apprehend passengers traveling without tickets. Fare inspectors will now be known as Provincial Offenses Officers. Their new uniform consists of grey shirts and vests.

TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lally announced that this change is being initiated due to the significant losses incurred annually from fare evasion. Passengers caught without a ticket will be fined between $235 and $425. A 2019 Auditor General’s report stated that strict enforcement can deter fare evaders.

The TTC loses $14 million annually due to fare evasion. This rebrand is part of the continuous measures taken by the TTC to recover this lost revenue, according to Mandeep S. Lally. Meanwhile, TTC fare inspectors conducting checks will continue to wear uniforms and body-worn cameras to record interactions with passengers.
