TORONTO – Toronto is finally catching a break from the sweltering heat and hazy skies that have blanketed the city for days. The special air quality statement, a concern due to wildfire smoke from northern Ontario and the Prairies, has officially ended, bringing welcome relief to residents.
The city’s air quality index dropped to a ‘low-risk’ 3 on Thursday, a significant improvement from earlier this week when Toronto faced the unenviable position of having the second-worst air quality in the world, according to Swiss tracker IQAir.
While Thursday will still see a high of 29 degrees Celsius, feeling more like 37 with the humidity, the good news is that the heat warning issued by Environment Canada last weekend has also been lifted. Fresher air is anticipated to move in overnight.
Looking ahead, Friday promises sunshine and a cooler daytime high of 24 degrees Celsius. The mercury will creep up slightly over the weekend, reaching 24 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 27 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Residents can look forward to more comfortable conditions as the city shakes off the recent extreme weather.
